Original Oil Painting, Plein Air Landscape of Wagner Butte, part of the Siskiyou Mountains of Southern Oregon, near Ashland. This view is from a trail near my home. It was painted in late spring, you can see green fields with mustard flowers and the blackberry bushes in the foreground are just starting to take on leaves. I have lived in this valley since I was a child. Suburbs are encroaching on agricultural areas. Agriculture has shifted from pears to wine to cannabis.

Plein Air Painting means painting out of doors, on location. It is a challenging way to paint, you battle the weather and well meaning visitors, but the reward is you have a direct, intense experience than is not possible when using a photo reference. I consider myself a documentary painter, I like to make records of who we are and what we see everyday.
